What is the Kingdom of Newgarrd?
The Kingdom of Newgarrd is a non-profit educational organization whose members recreate the past Dark Ages to Renaissance based eras. They depict what someone would have seen back in the early 1200s through the later-based 1600s.
Their re-enactment is based on time lines, historic research of fighting, clothing, feasting and everyday way of life of the period. The Kingdom of Newgarrd is comprised of all volunteers who joined the group and express the same interest in learning and recreating the past.
The Kingdom of Newgarrd attempts to give people a chance to interact with the members of Chivalry both out on the field in combat and throughout our “camp”. Funded solely through donations from the public, its own members and their period garb sales, they have accomplished much in their time together and look forward to many more years together.
How is the Kingdom of Newgarrd structured?
During the middle ages society was largely governed by the Feudal System. Obviously, things have changed. The Kingdom of Newgarrd’s organizational structure borrows somewhat from the feudal system while being firmly rooted in the twentieth century. The most basic “club” is the Household. Just as in times of old, the Household is ruled by a Lord.
The Lords were appointed by Barons or such and were expected to fulfill their wishes. It is the job of the head of households to harmonize the activities of those within their respected household.
The Sovereign of the Kingdom is that of the King and Queen. The entire Kingdom is governed by its Counsel of Barons. All peers that are Baron or higher make up the Counsel of Barons. From this body will be elected the head of states (official and appointed), which will be elected every two years.
Although men were born to be Earls and Dukes 800 years ago, in the Kingdom of Newgarrd these positions are earned. All members begin as lowly as a Freemen/Women or Commoner and work their way up to Noble status.
There are two ways of for advancement within the Kingdom of Newgarrd. Members are allowed to join the Chivalry, where they will learn what it was like to be a Knight back in the time period. Or members can join a guild.
Guilds are a secondary organizational structure that lie within the Kingdom. The guilds are where a person trains in skills and professions that will remain with him/her the rest of their life. Most guilds start a person out as an Apprentice or Novice. Eventually the title of Guild master can be achieved. Each guild is operated by the Master of the Guild who is the Guild’s Baron.
What is a persona?
Every person in the Kingdom of Newgarrd picks a name to go by while at an event or gathering. It could be something simple and familiar or something elaborate and exotic-sounding. Many people go by their ‘real’ first name for awhile until they figure what name they would like to adopt. However, no one may use the name of an actual person from history or legend.

We welcome everyone and anyone that is interested in learning more about the Kingdom of Newgarrd to stop by an visit us during our local gatherings. We normally hold a local gathering, either meeting or event on the third Saturday of every month.
